As a problem solver, data geek and demographer, YJ has a passion for discovering and sharing information and insight from data. It satisfies her curious mind, helps her reflect, and empowers her. And she is constantly motivated by seeing it create "lightbulb moments" and its impact on people's lives.
Her methodological expertise includes: demographic techniques, metrics development, end-to-end performance monitoring, complex survey design, automated data pipelines, and institutional data capacity strengthening.
She applies these rigorous methods to complex human population landscapes across two primary sectors:
Public Health & Global Development: Demographic transition and the demographic dividend, health information systems, quality of care, and Reproductive maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH) Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH)
Higher Education Demographics: National and regional student population pipelines, shifting demographics in higher education population, and socioeconomic diversity and student success outcomes.
She was formerly the Technical Deputy Director for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020 project, an Associate Scientist at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and Senior Technical Advisor for Population and Metrics at Bureau for Global Health, USAID. She earned her MPH and DrPH from Johns Hopkins University and BSN from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea.
YJ loves to connect with and learn from those who like-minded, data geeks or not. You can reach her at YJ.Choi@iSquared.global.
